Sian Ka’an Tour – Punta Allen

(30 Reviews)

The Sian Ka’an Biosphere, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest protected natural reserve in the Caribbean. It is located south of Tulum and covers over 650,000 hectares.

We will take you to the Sian Ka’an Reserve for a “marine safari” on a small boat to discover the wildlife of this remote area. In addition, we will sail through stunning landscapes looking for dolphins, follow the sea turtles, snorkel on the second largest reef in the world, relax in the crystal clear waters of Punta Allen’s natural pools, and enjoy a delicious lunch in the fishing village.

  • Local certified guides ! 🇪🇸 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🇩🇪
  • Enjoy breathtaking wildlife: Dolphins, Turtles, Crocodiles, Manatees, Birds, Stingrays...
  • We offer two options: DELUXE and CLASSIC
  • Tour in collaboration with local boat cooperatives
  • Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the tour

Two options: Deluxe or Classic

Two options to suit every budget!

Punta Allen is the only village in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere reserve and off the coast of Punta Allen is where most activities take place. The distance from the reserve entrance to Punta Allen is approximately 45 kilometers. This trip can be made by boat or van.

Sian Ka'an Deluxe -VS- Classic

What are the differences?
  • DELUXE : After a 25 minute van ride from the entrance of the biosphere, we will board the boat and begin our tour. This is our most comfortable option
  • CLASSIC : After an hour and 20 minute van ride from the entrance of the biosphere, we board the boat and begin our tour.

  • The main differences between these two options are the driving time in the van before boarding the boat and the way we do the crocodile watching activity.
  • For the CLASSIC option we view the crocodiles from the Boca Paila bridge, and for the DELUXE option, we have a closer view of the crocodiles from the boat under the Boca Paila bridge.
  • All other activities are done in the same way.

We had a very good customer service when booking the trip online. The pick up from our hotel was on time. The trip itself was amazing! The tour guide was very enthusiastic and clearly loved the area. We had two boats but it was ok. We saw dolphins, turtles, birds and beautiful fish.

My wife and I had so much fun on this tour! Our guide, Jessica, was energetic, kept us laughing the entire time and taught us a ton about the wildlife. She and the boat captains, were experts at spotting wildlife. We saw a sea turtle, dolphins, birds and a crocodile. Snorkeling in the ocean and relaxing in the calmer waters amazing. I’d recommend that anyone coming to the Tulum area check out this tour.

I had a great time with the people from Pixan Ka’an! Everything went smoothly and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and clearly cared deeply about the place. The lunch that was included was filling, and water was provided.

Booked this trip directly through Pixan Ki’an rather than the hotel. We were picked up from out hotel which was in between Tulum and Playa Del Carmen at 0700hrs. We collected a few more on the way any made our way south to Sian Ka’an where we boarded a boat to begin the tour. We meandered our was through the mangroves in the shallow fresh water water. On the way we saw dolphins and a brief encounter of a manatee which we were advised was extremely rare. We did see a crocodile but only the top part breaking the water before it disappeared. We progressed out of the fresh water in to the Caribbean sea to be greeted by the tropical waters. We stopped by a reef to enjoy a bit of snorkelling to see stingrays, turtles and other tropical fish! We then progressed on to Punta Allen fishing village and stopped in the shallow lagoon to take a well deserved dip in the crystal clear water and photo opportunities. After that we went on to enjoy a bit of lunch in the village and take in the beautiful topical scenery. We took a walk through the village to the other side of the island to get the boat back. We stopped at Bird Island to see the Frigatebirds. There was another sighting of a croc but we didn’t get to see it as it disappeared underwater too quickly. The boat then took us back to the original meeting point for the van trip home.

We had Abraham as out guide, he was passionate about the preservation of the biosphere and provided a wealth of knowledge. He was Mayan and keen to explain his heritage and the importance of keeping their traditions alive. This was good to see and offered an insight rather than just your typical uneducated holiday.

Overall experience was very good, remember to cover up to avoid the scorching sun especially when on a boat, recommend long sleeves and bottoms to protect from the sun.

If you visit the Yucatan district / Quintana Roo – this is a must see and highly recommend. Enjoy!

Honestly, this is one of the best tours I’ve ever been on – and I’ve been on a lot of tours!

Jessica, our host, was outstanding. Her warmth, friendliness, and passion for the wildlife really shone through. Her language skills were excellent too, given that she had to cater for both French and English guests. Nobody felt left out or uninformed. The lagoons were beautiful and we really enjoyed learning more about the local animals and their habitats. The lunch buffet was lovely and the scenery was breathtaking. I normally get seasick on boats but had no problems this time around – in fact, I loved the boat journeys! Thank you so much Pixan Ka’an, if we ever make it back to this part of the world we will be sure you use your services again. Muchos grazias.
